Relocating 2 Switches

Question

Posted · Report post

I am in an I.T. class and have been put in charge of  relocating a pair of 24-port switches from a rack above a false ceiling and moving them to an empty office.  I'm going to have to tone out where all the cables go and label them at the wall jack (keystone), the switch end of the cable, and the switch port itself.

The first step would be to do a site survey, right?  Find out where all the network cables run to and count the number of drops.

The second step would be to tone out the cables and label them as indicated above.

The third step would be re-pulling those runs because the current runs won't be long enough to reach the new location.

Then all those new runs would have to have RJ45 connectors installed on the switch end.

Does that sound right?  Did I leave anything out?

I would've replied sooner but I'm not entirely sure on the correct methods that are taught. All of the steps you mentioned sounds exactly right, doing a survey first, then label them etc.

So in short, I don't think you missed anything out! :)
